Kevin D. Erickson
Mr. Erickson joined the Firm in 1995. He practices in all areas of intellectual property law, including patent, trademark and copyright prosecution, litigation, and opinion work.
Mr. Erickson’s patent experience is focused primarily in the mechanical, electromechanical, health science and computer science fields. Having guided some 300 U.S. patent applications from idea to issuance, Mr. Erickson has extensive prosecution experience in numerous technologies including, for example, packaging, natural gas and energy, safety equipment, automotive products, industrial machinery, construction equipment and nutraceuticals. Mr. Erickson has also successfully filed and prosecuted numerous post-issuance reexaminations resulting in positive outcomes for his clients.
Mr. Erickson’s practice also includes preparation and prosecution of trademark and copyright applications and counseling and dispute resolution in trademark and copyright law. Mr. Erickson provides counseling, clearance and infringement opinions in both trademark and copyright matters.
By working closely and proactively with clients, Mr. Erickson strives to mitigate unnecessary disputes and costly litigation. However, when escalation becomes necessary, Mr. Erickson’s litigation practice has included defense and plaintiff side actions in patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition. By focusing on and emphasizing the important, Mr. Erickson has obtained cost and time efficient positive outcomes for his clients.
Mr. Erickson earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa in 1991 and his J.D. from the John Marshall Law School in 1995. Mr. Erickson is licensed in Illinois and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and numerous U.S. District Courts.
