Douglas H. PauleyMr. Pauley joined the Firm in 1988, having worked for a number of years as an engineer in the petrochemical industry and completing his law school studies while employed full time. Mr. Pauley manages the intellectual property portfolio of several corporate clients, and has acted as corporate patent counsel and worked directly with corporate management. Mr. Pauley specializes in preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications, in advising clients how to build value in intellectual property portfolios, and in guiding clients with identifying infringement and validity issues and options for proceeding, so the client can make informed business decisions.

Mr. Pauley earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1981, and his J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago in 1987. Mr. Pauley is licensed in Illinois and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and he is active in the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Northwest Suburban Bar Association.

Mr. Pauley has written and prosecuted more than 500 patent applications. His engineering, project management and contract negotiation experience with Amoco Chemicals Corporation provides him an easy rapport with inventors and their management, thereby enhancing his patent drafting efficacy. To date, Mr. Pauley has been instrumental in the development of the patent portfolios of a number of Fortune 500 corporations, and serves as the principal intellectual property liaison to a number of local and national companies.
