Mark D. SwansonMr. Swanson joined the Firm while in law school in 1999 and became a patent attorney in 2002. He practices in all areas of intellectual property law, including patent, trademark and copyright prosecution, reexamination, opinion work, and litigation support.

Mr. Swanson’s years at the firm have brought him into contact with a diverse spectrum of technology. His patent experience is focused primarily in the mechanical, electromechanical, chemical, biomedical and software fields. Mr. Swanson has extensive prosecution experience in numerous technologies including, for example, organic compounds, mobile device and location software, biomedical compositions and devices, imaging devices, packaging, electrical and computer components and enclosures, automotive products, industrial processes and machinery, construction equipment and pharmaceuticals/nutraceuticals.

Mr. Swanson has taken the lead on numerous post-issuance patent reexaminations, both as a reexamination requester and in defense of issued patents. Mr. Swanson is effective in locating invalidating prior art for opinions, reexaminations, litigation, and otherwise avoiding unnecessary and costly disputes.

Mr. Swanson’s practice also includes preparation and prosecution of trademark and copyright applications and counseling and dispute resolution in trademark and copyright law. Mr. Swanson provides counseling in both trademark and copyright matters. Mr. Swanson works closely with clients to determine strategies to eliminate or mitigate unnecessary disputes and costly litigation.

Mr. Swanson earned his B.S. Degree in Biology from Palm Beach Atlantic College in 1996. He graduated from The John Marshall Law School in 2002, cum laude, with his J.D. degree. Mr. Swanson is licensed in Illinois and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
